OUR STORY

Love Guatemala is located about 45 minutes outside of Guatemala City in a mountainous village called Magdalena. Love Guatemala began as a vision by a Guatemalan Couple, Carlos and Thelma Lopez, to love their community through giving them the gift that they had, Art. With this vision they began an art school to show their community the Love of Jesus and offer a way for the youth to earn an income. They began the art school with no resources and just 3 students. At this point Indy Metro Church in Indianapolis began making trips to this community and God connected them with Carlos and Thelma. They began to support the art school physically, spiritually and financially.

Through the continued support of Indy Metro Church and other churches and supporters, Love Guatemala grew into a ministry with three trade schools which became known as Love Guatemala. The Kunkel family was sent from Indy Metro Church in 2012 to support the ministry and help provide spiritual guidance and leadership.

Love Guatemala that started with just 3 students in 2007 has now grown to over 200 students. We have also added a feeding center,  English School, Primary, Middle and High School. We are in a facility which gives us the ability to continue to expand and start new educational programs to serve the community holistically.

Love Guatemala is now led by Katy Lopez as the General Director. She is a native of Magdalena and is supported by her staff of 17 to help give the hope of Jesus through holistic development to the 200 plus students we serve.
